”BLOOD RED” SHORTS BLOCK (68 mins)

Step inside and feast your eyes on sick horrors from around the globe. A sadistic family of lucha libres, a creature from the sea, a man amidst a horrific transformation, and an absolutely, totally normal group of students will add to the shapes you see in the shadows at night. Bring the kids: it’ll be a downright blast. This screening block features the following short films:

El Gigante
Selkie
Substitute
Blattaria

“NEON GREEN” SHORTS BLOCK (69 MINS)

Come look into the future with a crystal ball. Enjoy the genres of stars and swords: lasers and unicorns. Fantasy and Science Fiction made love, and this block of shorts was the result. Be dazzled, amazed, and challenged. These 5 international shorts give a glance into other words, where the line between magic and science blurs. This screening block features the following short films:

Phoenix
Sumer
Kresnik
Sleeping Death
KIKO’S Paradise

“BRIGHT YELLOW” SHORTS BLOCK (50 MINS)

The “Others” category represents the films that were too hip to be square. These films enjoy standing out in the crowd. They didn’t fit in the other categories, and for good reasons. What does a hamster, an artichoke, a box of memories and an emo kid have in common? Probably nothing, but you’ll enjoy the combination nonetheless. This screening block features the following short films:

Emo: The Musical
Artichokes
Curiosity Kills
Memorybox

“MIDNIGHT BLUE” SHORTS BLOCK (46 MINS)

A bit of action and dark humor mix for the perfect taste of what genre films are all about. These films all reside a bit off into the shadows, down an alley, away from the neon sidewalks. You won’t want to miss these five shorts that combine to form a perfect blend of action, thriller and dark comedy. All the really cool kids will be at this block. This screening block features the following short films:

Corto
Shiner
Good Hands
Spoilt
Thanatopraxy

Festival programmer Tony Taylor says the “primary goal of FSLR and the Fantastic Cinema Film Festival is to bring a diverse selection of high quality films to Little Rock that would not otherwise screen here. … There is no venue screening foreign genre films. We want to change that.”

Fridays’s films include the Filipino drama Children’s Show; the British sci-fi film Hungerford; Der Samurai, a fantasy/horror film from Germany; and at 10:30 p.m., a screening of Friday the 13th: Part 4.
Saturday’s lineup includes 54 Days, a psychological thriller from Australia; the Italian sci-fi animated feature Fantasticherie di un Passeggiatore Solitario (which won Best World Feature at the Boston Science Fiction Film Festival last month); Mexico Barbaro, an anthology of eight Mexican horror shorts; and Cub, a first feature from Belgian director Jonas Govaerts, who claims most U.S. film festivals found the film too shocking to program.
