Shinyribs! (at the White Water Tavern)February 27, 2013
He was the frontman and main songwriter for one of my favorite ’80s bands — the Picket Line Coyotes — and for the past 20 years or so has been busy as one of the founding members of the Austin-based The Gourds. He also has a sidegroup, Shinyribs, which will be playing the White Water Tavern in Little Rock Friday evening.
Joining him in Shinyribs — which released one of the best albums of 2010, Well After Awhile — are ourds’ drummer Keith Langford, bassist Jeff Brown of Cerebral Pony and keyboardist Winfield Cheek of Kentucky Fried.
Shinyribs next album,Gulf Coast Museum, will feature guest appearances by Sally Allen and Ray Wylie Hubbard and — I’m told — Russell’s ukele version of the Gamble/Huff classic “If You Don’t Know Me by Now.”
And Kevin Kerby might show up as well.
So you should go.
