Winter’s Bone returns to Little Rock FridayJanuary 31, 2011
Just found out the Oscar-nominated Winter’s Bone, my favorite film of 2010, is returning to Little Rock’s Market Street Cinema Friday.
Adapted from Daniel Woodrell’s novel of the same name, the movie is a rural noir set in the Ozark Mountains of Southwest Missouri. Ree Dolly (Jennifer Lawrence), a 17-year-old planning to escape the squalor of her home life by joining the Army, finds her plans derailed when her crystal methamphetamine-cooking father skips out on a court appearance. Seems he’s put the family’s house up for bond. If he doesn’t turn up soon, the property will be seized.
So Ree sets out to find him.
In retrospect, my review (“…a devastating, naturalistic tale about the difficulties of staying decent in a corrupt world…”) was a little too measured. This is a great movie.
