Sugar Bowl playlist, from the sublime to the cheesy

December 31, 2010

We were talking about New Orleans songs on the radio — 103.7 the Buzz — the other day, and since I’m basically taking the week off, I thought I’d post a few. Some New Orleans music, some music on New Orleans subjects. This goes out to David Bazzel, who sort of had the idea.

This one was popular when Paul and I both lived down there: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CPQIfN1D5xA

That song got some airplay down there, but I’m not sure if it was played much anywhere else. Never heard of the band again. One of our classmates claimed to have done a lot of cocaine with them, but you really couldn’t credit anything John said as being in any way truthful.

I’ve always been partial to Willie Nelson’s version of “City of New Orleans”. And, since that song really isn’t about the Crescent City, how about Chuck Berry’s (Give me Dave Edmund’s) “Promised Land”.
