More Top 10 movie lists — Robin Ward

December 24, 2010

My Arkansas Democrat-Gazette colleague Robin Ward is one of the most discerning movie buffs I know, here’s her list from the past year. She notes:

“A couple of these are stragglers from 2009. I’m including them because I haven’t seen a lot of 2010 movies that I’m pretty sure would make my list.“

1.The White Ribbon

2. A Prophet

3. Biutiful

4. Winter’s Bone

5. Solitary Man

6. Restrepo

7. The Town

8. True Grit

9. Inception

10. Sin Nombre

Drew McWeeney at Hitfix named his top 10 Wednesday. It included something called A Serbian Film. Ever heard of this? It sounds brutal and awful.

I haven’t seen A Serbia Film so I probably shouldn’t comment, but I’m under the impression that it’s a torture porn film that kinda sorta pretends to be an art film that condemns torture porn. All I really know for sure is that it’s been really controversial, sort of like this year’s Brown Bunny.

Ugh. Wikipedia has a full plot rundown. It sounds just lovely. What the hell is wrong with the Serbs?

I will refer your question to my Croatian wife. She is up on all the tribal grievances. (Note to literal-minded lurkers: We’re joking. Though Karen is of Croatian-German descent and the only thing her Uncle Pete needs to know about me is that I’m not Serbian.)
