Echotone at the HSDFF

October 15, 2010

We love Austin, Texas —  a weird blue oasis of freak in the red desert that is Greater Texas. It feels like Little Rock, if Little Rock had a major destination university like the UT appended.

But we’ve seen the changes over the past 20 years or so, and while Austin still deserves to be considered ”The Live Music Capital of the World,” it’s never been easy to make a living as a working musician in the city. The recent economic troubles have made it even harder.

Echotone, directed by Nathan Christ and photographed by Robert Garza, is a doc examining the lives of some of Austin’s most vibrant young musicians as they wrestle with questions of artistic integrity, commercialism, experimentation and their city’s  future of their beloved city.

Echotone will be premiering at the Hot Springs Documentary Film Festival on Oct. 21 at 6:50 PM and a special follow up performance at Maxine’s at 9:00 PM by featured musicians Bill Baird and Dana Falconberry.
